FLORA
Een nieuw filmtheater in Den Haag
Oprichters Bo Maerten en Marijn Veltman, twee filmfanatici, dromen al jaren van een modern film(t)huis in Den Haag. Met Filmtheater FLORA willen zij een ode brengen aan de rijke geschiedenis van Den Haag als bioscoop- en filmstad en een breed scala aan culturele, maatschappelijke en bijzondere films & documentaires aanbieden.
Geïnspireerd op een klassiek theater waar zowel arthouse als kwalitatieve commerciële films draaien, zal FLORA een toegankelijke plek in Den Haag worden die al haar bezoekers een bredere blik op de wereld biedt.
Maar zover is het nog niet. Om deze plek te realiseren is er niet alleen enthousiasme nodig, ook een vaste locatie én financiële steun. Daarom organiseert het duo tot die tijd pop-up filmweken op verrassende plekken in Den Haag. Rondreizend Filmtheater FLORA is inmiddels al neergestreken in de Binckhorst, Laakkwartier en Scheveningen. Elke keer werden de mooiste films gecombineerd met restaurant Café Knift, onder leiding van chef Sijbren Bartlema.
Voor de 4e editie van deze pop-up bioscoop – met restaurant – strijkt FLORA in oktober ‘23 twee weken neer in Club Laak.
Met deze pop-up weken willen ze Den Haag (en omstreken) warm maken voor de opening van een vaste locatie van Filmtheater FLORA. Benieuwd hoe jij kunt helpen?

FLORA
A brand new film theatre in The Hague
For years founders Bo Maerten and Marijn Veltman, both big cinema fanatics, have dreamed about opening an arthouse movie theatre with a classic feel in The Hague. With Filmtheater FLORA they are hoping to do just that. FLORA is meant to be a celebration of The Hague’s rich history as a city of cinema and film and will offer a broad range of cultural, social and extraordinary movies and documentaries.
FLORA is inspired by a classic theatre that screens both arthouse and qualitative commercial movies and documentaries, and it intends to become the go-to place in The Hague that offers all its visitors a broader view of the world.
However, we’re not there yet. It requires more than enthusiasm alone to realize this worldly concept. A permanent location and sufficient financial support are needed as well. That is why the duo is organising pop-up film weeks in surprising places in The Hague until then. Itinerant Filmtheater FLORA has already settled in the Binckhorst, Laakkwartier and Scheveningen. Each time, the best films were combined with restaurant Café Knift, led by chef Sijbren Bartlema.
For the 4th edition of this pop-up cinema – with restaurant – FLORA will settle in Club Laak for a fortnight in October ’23.
With these pop-up weeks, they want to warm up The Hague (and the surrounding area) for the opening of a permanent location of Filmtheater FLORA. Wondering how you can help?
